Italian documentary and war photographer known for his cinematic style
Alex Majoli is an Italian photographer known for his work in portrait, documentary, and war photography. Born in Ravenna, Italy in 1971, Majoli attended the Art Institute in Ravenna and later studied at the FABRICA, Benetton's communication research center. He began his career as a photojournalist in 1985 and has since covered conflicts and events around the world, including the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan, the Iraq War, and the Arab Spring. Majoli is a member of the prestigious Magnum Photos agency, which he joined in 2001. His work has been published in numerous international publications, including Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, and National Geographic. Majoli's photography is characterized by its cinematic quality and his ability to capture the emotional intensity of his subjects. He often uses artificial lighting to create dramatic and theatrical images, blurring the line between reality and fiction. Majoli has received several awards for his work, including the Infinity Award for Photojournalism from the International Center of Photography in 2004 and the Leica European Publishers Award for Photography in 2009. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. In addition to his photography, Majoli has also directed several short films and documentaries.
