Alfred Stevens
Belgian painter
Alfred Stevens (1823–1906) was a Belgian painter known for his elegant genre scenes, portraits, and historical subjects. Born in Brussels, Stevens received his artistic training at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts and later moved to Paris, where he was influenced by the works of artists like Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres and Édouard Manet. He gained recognition for his depictions of fashionable Parisian women, often set against luxurious interiors or romantic landscapes. Stevens achieved commercial success and critical acclaim during his lifetime, exhibiting regularly at the Paris Salon and receiving numerous awards.
