British printmaker known for botanical designs
Angie Lewin is a contemporary British printmaker known for her intricate and detailed depictions of the natural world. Born in 1963, Lewin studied printmaking at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design and Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in London. Her work is characterized by its stylized representations of plants, flowers, and landscapes, often inspired by the British countryside. Lewin works primarily in linocut, wood engraving, and screen printing, and her prints are notable for their delicate lines and use of bold, vibrant colors.
Lewin's work has been exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, and she has received numerous awards for her printmaking. In 2006, she was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, and in 2008, she was awarded the Printmakers' Printmaker Award at the Originals 08 exhibition. Lewin's prints are held in several public collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.
In addition to her printmaking, Lewin has also designed textiles, wallpaper, and ceramics, often featuring her signature botanical motifs. She has collaborated with companies such as St. Jude's, which produces fabrics and wallpapers featuring designs by contemporary artists. Lewin's work has been featured in several books, including Plants and Places, which showcases her prints alongside her sketches and inspiration from the natural world.
