Arthur Sarnoff
American artist
Arthur Sarnoff (1912–2000) was an American artist and illustrator, best known for his commercial illustrations that graced the covers of magazines, advertisements, and various forms of media. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sarnoff studied at the Industrial School and the Grand Central School of Art. He initially gained recognition for his pin-up art and illustrations for popular magazines of the time, including The Saturday Evening Post and Cosmopolitan. Later in his career, he transitioned to fine art and became particularly known for his highly detailed and realistic paintings of everyday American life, animals, and historical scenes.
Sarnoff's work is characterized by its meticulous attention to detail, vibrant colors, and often whimsical subject matter. One of his most famous works is "The Hustler," which depicts a group of dogs playing pool, a theme he revisited in several other paintings.
