Auguste Herbin
French painter
Auguste Herbin (1882–1960) was a French painter and a significant figure in the development of abstract art. Born in Quiévy, Nord, Herbin initially studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille before moving to Paris, where he was influenced by the works of artists like Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh. Over time, he evolved from a Fauvist and Cubist style to complete abstraction, becoming one of the co-founders of the abstract art group "Abstraction-Création" in 1931.
Herbin's work is characterized by its geometric shapes, bold colors, and a meticulous approach to composition. He developed a unique visual language, even creating a correspondence between colors, forms, and musical notes, aiming for a universal form of artistic expression.
