Bernard Tschumi
Architect
Bernard Tschumi is a Swiss-French architect and educator, born in 1944, who gained international recognition for his avant-garde designs and theoretical writings. He is best known for his work on the Parc de la Villette in Paris, a project that exemplifies his interest in "disjunction" and challenges traditional architectural concepts. Tschumi's designs often incorporate unconventional elements and aim to create dynamic interactions between space, event, and movement. His work is characterized by a focus on architecture as a form of cultural production and often explores the boundaries between architecture and other disciplines.
Tschumi has held various academic positions, including serving as the Dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia University from 1988 to 2003.
