British photographer
Bill Brandt (1904-1983) was a British photographer and photojournalist, renowned for his diverse body of work that includes social documentary, landscapes, portraits, and nudes. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Brandt moved to England in 1933, where he began to document British society, capturing everything from the lives of the working class to the aristocracy.
Brandt's social documentary work is characterized by its stark realism and empathy, providing an unflinching look at life in Britain during the 1930s and the wartime era. His book "The English at Home" (1936) is a seminal work in this genre.
