Bob Ross
American painter
Bob Ross was an American painter, art instructor, and television host, best known for his instructional TV program "The Joy of Painting," which aired from 1983 to 1994. Born in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1942, Ross discovered his love for painting while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He developed a unique, quick-painting technique, often completing an entire landscape painting in under 30 minutes, a skill he would later showcase on his television show. His calm, soothing demeanor and iconic afro made him a cultural icon, and his phrase "happy little trees" became part of the American lexicon.
Ross's impact on the art world and popular culture has been profound. His easy-to-follow instructions democratized art, making it accessible to people who had never picked up a paintbrush.
