British artist
Briton Rivière (1840-1920) was a British artist known for his paintings of animals, particularly domestic pets and wildlife. Born in London, he came from an artistic family, with his father being a well-known art instructor. Rivière studied at the Royal Academy of Arts, where he later became a professor.
Rivière's work is characterized by its realistic depiction of animals, often portrayed with human-like emotions and expressions. He had a remarkable ability to capture the individual personalities and characteristics of the animals he painted, whether it was a loyal dog or a majestic lion. His paintings often included narrative elements, with animals placed in dramatic or sentimental scenes that resonated with Victorian audiences.
