Cuban-American minimalist painter
Carmen Herrera was a Cuban-American painter known for her contributions to the minimalist and geometric abstraction movements. She studied at the Art Students League of New York and the University of Havana. Herrera's work is characterized by its precise use of color, form, and line, often employing a limited palette and simple geometric shapes. Notable works include Blanco y Verde and Amarillo Dos. Despite creating art for decades, she gained significant recognition later in life, with her first major retrospective held at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2016. Her paintings are included in the collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Tate Modern.
