French landscape painter
Charles-Francois Daubigny was a prominent French painter associated with the Barbizon School, known for his significant contributions to landscape painting. His works often depicted serene river scenes and rural landscapes, characterized by their naturalistic detail and atmospheric effects. Daubigny's innovative use of a boat as a floating studio allowed him to capture the changing light and reflections on water with remarkable precision, as seen in paintings such as The River Oise near Auvers and Sunset on the Oise. His approach influenced later Impressionist painters, including Claude Monet. Daubigny exhibited regularly at the Salon de Paris and was awarded numerous accolades for his work. His paintings are held in high regard and are part of major collections in institutions such as the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay.
