British children's book illustrator
Charles Robinson was a British illustrator known for his contributions to children's literature in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was part of a family of illustrators, including his brothers Thomas Heath Robinson and William Heath Robinson. Robinson's work is characterized by its intricate line work and detailed, whimsical style. Among his notable illustrations are those for A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. His illustrations often featured elaborate borders and vignettes, enhancing the narrative quality of the texts they accompanied. Robinson's artistic contributions were significant during the Golden Age of Illustration, and his works continue to be celebrated for their artistic merit and imaginative quality.
