Craigie Aitchison
Scottish painter known for vivid colors and minimalist style
Craigie Aitchison was a British painter known for his distinctive use of color and simplified forms. His work often featured religious themes, landscapes, and portraits, characterized by a minimalist approach and a vivid palette. Aitchison's paintings, such as Crucifixion and Sheep in a Landscape, are noted for their serene and contemplative qualities. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in London and was influenced by Italian Renaissance art. Aitchison was elected a Royal Academician in 1988 and received several awards throughout his career. His works are held in major collections, including the Tate Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
