American street artist and realist painter
Dan Witz is an American street artist known for his hyper-realistic and often provocative works that blend seamlessly into urban environments. Born in 1957, Witz has been active since the late 1970s, initially gaining recognition for his Birdhouse series, which featured meticulously painted birds on city walls. His work often incorporates elements of trompe-l'œil, creating the illusion of three-dimensional objects on flat surfaces. Witz's projects have included In Plain View, a series of installations that place realistic depictions of people and animals in unexpected urban locations, and Mosh Pit, which captures the chaotic energy of punk rock concerts. His art has been exhibited in galleries such as the Jonathan LeVine Gallery in New York and the Carmichael Gallery in Los Angeles. Witz's work has also been featured in publications like The New York Times and Juxtapoz. He continues to influence the street art movement with his innovative approach to blending fine art techniques with guerrilla art tactics.
