Vietnamese-Danish conceptual artist
Danh Vo is a Vietnamese-Danish conceptual artist known for his exploration of themes such as identity, migration, and cultural history. His works often incorporate found objects and historical artifacts, creating installations that challenge conventional narratives and highlight the interconnectedness of personal and collective histories. Notable works include We The People, a full-scale replica of the Statue of Liberty fragmented into approximately 300 pieces, and 2.02.1861, a series of letters written by the French Catholic missionary Jean-Théophane Vénard before his execution in Vietnam, meticulously copied by Vo's father. Vo's practice frequently involves collaboration and the recontextualization of existing materials, emphasizing the fluidity of meaning and the complexities of cultural exchange. His works have been exhibited in major international venues, including the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Venice Biennale.
