David Altmejd
Canadian contemporary sculptor and installation artist
David Altmejd is a Canadian sculptor and installation artist known for his intricate and fantastical works that often explore themes of transformation, decay, and regeneration. He employs a wide range of materials, including plaster, resin, glass, and synthetic hair, to create complex and detailed sculptures that blur the boundaries between the organic and the artificial. Notable works include The Flux and the Puddle, a large-scale installation featuring a labyrinthine structure populated with anthropomorphic figures and surreal elements, and The Giant 2, a towering sculpture that combines human and animal forms in a state of metamorphosis. Altmejd's work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Venice Biennale, and he is represented by prominent galleries such as Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York.
