Don Hertzfeldt
American independent animator
Don Hertzfeldt is an American animator, writer, and independent filmmaker known for his distinctive style of hand-drawn animation. He gained prominence with his short films, including Rejected (2000), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short Film. His work often features dark humor, surrealism, and existential themes. Hertzfeldt's notable projects include the trilogy Everything Will Be OK (2006), I Am So Proud of You (2008), and It's Such a Beautiful Day (2011), which were later compiled into a feature film. He also created the acclaimed short film World of Tomorrow (2015), which won the Grand Jury Prize for Short Film at the Sundance Film Festival. Hertzfeldt's animation is characterized by its minimalist aesthetic, often employing simple line drawings and limited color palettes. He has maintained a strong independent stance throughout his career, self-producing and distributing his films without major studio involvement.
