Doug Marlette
American editorial cartoonist and comic strip creator
Doug Marlette was an American cartoonist and illustrator known for his work in editorial cartoons and comic strips. He created the comic strip Kudzu, which debuted in 1981 and humorously depicted life in the American South. Marlette's editorial cartoons, which appeared in newspapers such as the Charlotte Observer and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, often addressed political and social issues with a sharp, satirical edge. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1988. In addition to his work in newspapers, Marlette authored several books, including the novel The Bridge and a collection of his cartoons. His career was marked by a distinctive style that combined wit with incisive commentary, making significant contributions to American cartooning and illustration.
