Edwin Lord Weeks was an American painter known for his Orientalist works, depicting scenes from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia. He studied under Jean-Léon Gérôme and Léon Bonnat in Paris, which influenced his academic style. Weeks traveled extensively, drawing inspiration from his journeys to create detailed and vibrant compositions. Notable works include The Last Voyage and The Rajah Starting on a Hunt. His paintings often featured architectural elements, bustling marketplaces, and local customs, rendered with meticulous attention to light and color. Weeks exhibited at the Paris Salon and was a member of the National Academy of Design.
