French painter known for Parisian street scenes
Eugene Galien-Laloue was a French painter born on December 11, 1854, in Paris, and he passed away on April 18, 1941. He is primarily known for his depictions of Parisian street scenes, capturing the bustling life of the city during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Galien-Laloue's works are characterized by their detailed and vibrant portrayal of urban landscapes, often featuring horse-drawn carriages, pedestrians, and the architecture of the time. He frequently employed gouache, watercolor, and oil paints in his compositions.
Galien-Laloue exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Français and was a member of the Société des Artistes Français. His paintings were well-received, and he gained a reputation for his ability to render the atmospheric effects of different seasons and times of day. Throughout his career, he used several pseudonyms, including J. Lievin, E. Galiany, and L. Dupuy, which allowed him to produce a large volume of work without oversaturating the market under a single name.
His works are held in various private collections and have been featured in numerous exhibitions. Notable pieces include Boulevard de la Madeleine and Place de la République. Galien-Laloue's contributions to the depiction of urban life in Paris have made him a significant figure in the realm of French landscape and genre painting.
