Grayscale painting technique
To highlight the style's strenghts and features, we run each SREF code through a set of 16 standardized prompts—Midlibrary Benchmark. Each prompt demonstrates how the SREF ”behaves“ in various domains of visual art/applications.
Grisaille is a painting technique that involves using shades of grey to create a monochromatic image, often to simulate sculpture or to serve as an underpainting. This method has been used historically in frescoes and oil paintings to create a sense of depth and form without the use of color.
Grisaille's Midjourney style representation features a classical and surreal approach, focusing on detailed and dark portraits. The compositions are often centered, with fine lines and intricate backgrounds that include floral motifs. The mood is mysterious and introspective, utilizing a greyscale color palette with subtle gradients. This style draws inspiration from Renaissance and Romanticism art movements, with a strong influence from European cultures, particularly France and Italy. The subjects often include mythical figures and elegant women, rendered with a realistic and neoclassical artistic style.
