Guy Carleton Wiggins was an American impressionist painter who was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1883. He was the son of Carleton Wiggins, an American landscape painter. Wiggins studied at the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, the Art Students League of New York, and the National Academy of Design. He taught at the National Academy of Design and the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts. Wiggins died in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1962.
Wiggins was a prolific painter who specialized in impressionist landscapes and cityscapes. His paintings are characterized by their loose brushwork, vibrant colors, and attention to light and atmosphere. He was particularly fond of painting New York City, and many of his paintings depict the city's streets, landmarks, and skyscrapers. Wiggins was also a member of the Old Lyme Art Colony, a group of American painters who were active in the early 20th century.
Wiggins was a talented artist who was recognized for his work early in his career. In 1903, when he was just 20 years old, his painting Winter, Fifth Avenue was acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Wiggins was also a talented engraver, and he produced a number of engravings of his own paintings, as well as engravings of the work of other artists. Wiggins was a close friend of the American painter Robert Henri, who was a major influence on his work.
