Hans Makart (1840-1884) was an Austrian painter, decorator, and designer, often referred to as the "magician of colors." Born in Salzburg, Austria, Makart was a prominent figure in the Viennese art scene during the late 19th century, known for his opulent and theatrical style.
Makart's work is characterized by its sensuality, rich color palette, and historical themes. He was heavily influenced by the Venetian Renaissance painters and often depicted scenes from mythology and history with a lavish and romantic flair. His studio became a social center in Vienna, attracting various artists, writers, and high-society figures. Makart's influence extended beyond painting, as he also designed interiors and staged elaborate historical pageants.
