Moroccan-British contemporary visual artist
Hassan Hajjaj is a contemporary visual artist known for his vibrant and eclectic works that blend traditional and modern elements. Born in 1961 in Larache, Morocco, Hajjaj moved to London in his teens, where he has since been based. His artistic practice spans photography, installation, performance, and design, often incorporating elements of fashion and popular culture. Hajjaj's work is characterized by its use of bold colors, patterns, and textures, drawing on his Moroccan heritage and his experiences in the multicultural environment of London. One of his notable series is Kesh Angels, which features Moroccan women dressed in colorful, traditional attire juxtaposed with modern, often Western, elements. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at institutions such as the British Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the Brooklyn Museum. Hajjaj has also participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions, such as My Rock Stars and La Caravane. His contributions to contemporary art have been recognized for their unique blend of cultural commentary and aesthetic innovation.
