Ansel Adams
American photographer
Ansel Adams (1902–1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist, best known for his iconic black-and-white photographs of the American West, particularly of Yosemite National Park. Born in San Francisco, California, Adams developed an early love for nature and the outdoors, which would become the focus of his artistic career. He was a self-taught photographer who eventually became a major advocate for the conservation of the American landscape. Adams was a founding member of the photography group f/64, along with other notable photographers like Edward Weston and Imogen Cunningham, which aimed to promote sharp-focused and carefully framed images.
Adams' work is characterized by its meticulous attention to detail, technical precision, and a profound respect for the natural world. His mastery of the Zone System, a technique he developed to determine optimal film exposure and development, allowed him to capture the grandeur and subtleties of natural landscapes with unparalleled clarity and depth.
