American cartoonist, creator of "FoxTrot" comic strip
Bill Amend is an American cartoonist and illustrator, best known for his comic strip Foxtrot, which he created and has been syndicating since 1988. Born on September 20, 1962, in Northampton, Massachusetts, Amend developed an interest in drawing and comics at an early age. He graduated from Amherst College with a degree in physics, but pursued a career in cartooning shortly after. Foxtrot features the Fox family and is known for its humor centered on pop culture, technology, and the challenges of everyday life. Amend's work has been recognized with several awards, including the National Cartoonists Society's Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year in 2007. In addition to Foxtrot, Amend has also worked on various other projects, including contributing to anthologies and creating illustrations for merchandise. His work has been published in numerous newspapers and is also available in book collections. Despite the popularity of Foxtrot, Amend scaled back the strip from a daily publication to a Sunday-only format in 2006, citing a desire to focus on other interests and spend more time with his family. Bill Amend continues to produce Foxtrot on a weekly basis and remains an influential figure in the world of comic strips and illustration.
