David Cox
English landscape painter
David Cox was an English landscape painter associated with the Birmingham School and the Norwich School of painters. He is best known for his contributions to the development of English watercolor painting during the 19th century. Cox's works often depicted rural scenes and atmospheric effects, characterized by their loose brushwork and vibrant use of color. Among his notable paintings are The Hayfield and Welsh Funeral. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and the Society of Painters in Water Colours, where he was elected a member in 1813. Cox's techniques and stylistic approaches influenced subsequent generations of landscape artists, and his works are held in high regard in major art institutions, including the Tate Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
