American abstract painter
Ellsworth Kelly was an American painter, sculptor, and printmaker associated with hard-edge painting, Color Field painting, and minimalism. His work is characterized by the use of bold colors, simple forms, and a focus on the physicality of the painting as an object. Notable works include Spectrum Colors Arranged by Chance, Red Blue Green, and Yellow Curve. Kelly's approach often involved the use of shaped canvases and a reduction of form to its most essential elements, emphasizing the relationship between the artwork and its surrounding space. He studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and later at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His career spanned over six decades, during which he received numerous accolades and his works were exhibited in major museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London.
